Where do WE go to rest, and how can we AFFORD it?

One thing we, as pastors' families, need on a regular basis is down time, vacation, retreat. But, who can afford to both take the time and pay to go somewhere?

Our ministries need us to be refreshed and ready to serve, but don't often leave us feeling like we have enough time to get everything done AND take a break. And while our every day needs are provided for, we're never quite sure we can stretch our budgets far enough to include adequate 'away' time and space.

So, what do we do? Where do we go to rest, and how do we plan the time and the money to be able to do it?

My husband and I started researching retreat facilities when we were looking at going on Sabbatical last summer. We found some really neat resources that I'm going to try to dig up over the next little while and share with you all here. There are places all across the USA, Canada, and even worldwide, that provide low cost, discounted, or completely free accommodations for pastors and their families looking for retreat. I will not be able to form a complete list here, but I'll list every place I can find.

If you know of any retreat facilities for pastors and their families, please send me an e-mail and I can add that to the list. I think it is extremely important to have this information available so that we can find the time and space to rest and retreat with our families, and with that rest to be better prepared as spouses, parents and ministers.

It IS extremely important! My husband and I have been serving in ministry for over 16 years, so I know what you are talkin' about sista! I have a few resources I can share with you. I need to find my folder of different options. It was given to my husband at one of our Camp Meetings. I'll be happy to share with you what I find!

On this journey,
Cherry

Ladies, I would LOVE to see the list. I was searching tonight for a place not too far from home. We live between Allentown and Philadelphia in PA. I can't seem to find a list here on this blogspot. Am I missing something? Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

Cherry - Oh, please do share!! Can't wait to see what you've got, too!

I don't have the list up, yet... I'm working on gathering information for a list.

Sounds like you need a place sooner than later. I am not able to do any work on the list today or tomorrow (we have friends coming in to visit) but I will get to it as quickly as I can.

From a quick look at one (slightly dated?) resource:

Life Ministries
■Address: P.O. Box 311,Franklin,PA 16323
■Phone: 814-437-6251
■Contact: Rich Tygert,Administrator
■Cost: Apartment,one night $40; two nights $55. Private room w/bath,one night $25; two nights $40
Apartment consists of 2 bedrooms,bath,combination living /dining room,and private kitchen. With a
beautiful view overlooking the Allegheny River, this is an attractive, yet economical setting for getting away.
Two miles off all paved roads, this is a rustic, very comfortable setting. Advance reservations required.

I have no idea where that is in relation to you.... I have a friend from PA (now in Canada) so I'll touch base with him too and see if he knows of any places. Hope this helps for now!
